Design thinking for educators – Problem solve & Innovate (English)
Design Thinking has been widely used in product and service design and its use in higher education can enhance curriculum design and teaching and learning innovation. Phases of Design Thinking include empathise, define, ideate, prototype and test which help to tackle ill-defined problems. Its human centred iterative approach is a fresh approach to learner centred curriculum, learning and assessment.

In the light of this, we would like to cordially invite you to join our face-to-face workshop on Design Thinking. Our facilitator Prof. Carmen Wong, the awardee of the 2020 University Grants Committee Teaching Award, will demonstrate the process of design thinking with related educational pedagogy and case examples. This interactive workshop gives you a chance to use design thinking in courses you teach and in generating ideas with other disciplines.

Enriching interactions using uReply (English)
uReply is a student response system (SRS), which was designed to facilitate teacher-student interactions using mobile devices. It was developed and launched at the CUHK in 2012. It is well-known for the following characteristics:
  • Easy to use: Students use all sorts of digital devices (e.g., smartphone, tablet and notebook) and the user interface is intuitively simple
  • Campus-wide: it supports all classes, big or small
  • Cloud-based: it collects instant student’ responses and generates instant reports
In the workshop, our team will explain the basic operations and share tips of using the system.

Tips on Hybrid Teaching (English)
While face-to-face teaching will be resumed in the new academic year 2021-22, hybrid teaching (a live class where some students attend physically and some join from home via a video-conferencing tool) may still be relevant, as some students may face travel or other restrictions that prevent them from attending classes in-person.

This workshop aims to guide you through some strategies to use a typical classroom for hybrid teaching. We will also bring to your attention that there are a few special classrooms upgraded during summer with equipment that should further facilitate hybrid teaching. We encourage you to read the “Guide to Hybrid Classrooms” prior to the workshop and bring your questions for an interactive discussion with the facilitators and fellow teachers.

Come to join us to learn more about hybrid teaching:
  • Equipment and classroom set-up
  • Demonstration on various T&L activities
  • Tips and tricks for engaging students
  • Q&A and discussion
